Sliema Wanderers registered a third successive win as they defeated Hamrun Spartans 3-0 at the Hibernians Stadium on Saturday. A win which puts them temporarily in fourth place, one place ahead of the Spartans.

For Sliema, Roger de Souza Vilas Boas and Denni Rocha dos Santos replaced Gabriel Aquilina and the suspended Marko Potezica. On the other hand, David Cassar, Christian Maldini and Luis Vergara Rodriguez replaced Matthew Farrugia, Luke Sciberras and the suspended Sergio Raphael for Hamrun.

The Wanderers took the lead on the 31st when Christian Maldini brought down Christian Muchardi inside the area and Alex Muscat from the penalty spot with a low powerful shot gave no chance for Farrugia to save.

Ten minutes in the second half, Jean Paul Farrugia received a through pass and rounded Maldini before beating the Hamrun goalkeeper with a diagonal shot.

Nine minutes from time, the Wanderers made it 3-0 when off a Denni freekick, Gabriel Aquilina’s effort was deflected by Christian Maldini for an own goal.
